For my first post, I’m sharing the Robinson Crusoe 3D Printed Insert for the Collector’s Edition by js500. This is one of my favorite board games, and I’m thrilled to showcase one of my favorite 3D-print insert designers for it.

Robinson Crusoe: Adventures on the Cursed Island is a classic. It’s tense, thematic, with every game a story of desperate survival. And the Collector’s Edition brings detailed miniatures, premium components and endless replayability.
But if you open the box without a plan, you may be overwhelmed by a sea of cards, tokens, and components. Setup can quickly turn into its own little challenge before the first island tile is even placed. The game itself is already demanding enough, so the last thing you want is the setup slowing you down before the adventure even begins.

Meet the Insert: js500’s Robinson Crusoe Gamefound Collector’s Edition Insert / Organizer
Robinson Crusoe Gamefound Collector’s Edition Insert / Organizer was designed by js500 on Printables and built specifically for the Collector’s Edition. It accounts for premium sleeves, upgraded resources, and Gamefound campaign content. It has no lid lift, can have vertical storage, and is a pleasure to handle.
I printed mine in Bambu Lab PLA Matte in Dark Brown and Desert Tan. The earthy tones complement the game’s island-survival aesthetic beautifully, evoking sandy beaches and wooden driftwood. Coupled with the solid design of the 3D insert components, opening the box feels calm, organized, and intentional, as if it was always meant to be this way.

Survival Streamlined – What this Robinson Crusoe 3D Printed Insert Covers
I’ll now go over my favorite details of this design. The thought and care behind every little detail is impressive and one of the main reasons I choose this designer’s inserts over everything else.
Set Up Trays to Get Organized Fast
One of the biggest reasons I love js500 designs is that everything was designed with actually playing the game in mind. We start with dedicated setup trays. These are trays you pull out to distribute components to players and around the board, then put back in the box once the game begins, keeping your game area uncluttered.

These card trays are conveniently labeled, so you can grab just the cards you need for your game and put the unused cards back in the box. Ample space is included for all the cards, even in premium sleeves.

The smaller Inventions & Starting Equipment card holder includes optional dividers to help you organize these small cards as you see fit. I printed two dividers, so the tray now has separate divisions for Starting Equipment, Starting Inventions, Player Inventions, Other Inventions, and Game of Adventure-specific inventions.
In-Game Trays for Table Efficiency
The in-game trays are a completely separate set from the setup trays, and they have one job: keeping everything you need within easy reach during play. Cards, resources, tokens and all the components you need are organized in handy trays. The token wells are shallow and scoopable, which means grabbing a resource takes a second rather than a rummage. Once you play with them, you’ll wonder how you managed without them.
These trays include:
- Resource tray to hold food, non-perishable food, wood, and fur
- Token tray to hold action markers, status indicators and helper pawns to remind you of in-game events
- Tray for commonly used components like Determination tokens, dice, and wooden discs
- Three in-game card trays for the Build, Gather, and Explore Decks, as well as Mystery and Beast Cards

Card Trays Designed for Play
One detail I really like is these card trays, designed to sit right on the mat or game board during play. They’re not just for storage in the box. You move them straight to the table when setting up, which saves time and keeps the cards neatly in place throughout the game. The Beast tray even has a handy spot for Beast discards after your Hunts.

The three Build, Gather, and Explore decks are connected and sit perfectly in their spot on the official playmat, which looks fantastic during play. The one thing on my wish list would be dedicated spots for the three dice that go with each deck. A small thing, but it would make an already great design even more perfect.

Aside from its role as an insert spacer in the box, this large card holder can also sit on the table and serve as a card discard tray for various cards, thanks to its six generous slots. Before this, I had a whole mish-mash pile of Build/Gather/Explore, Mystery, Event, and Beast cards that took way too much time to sort at the end of the game. By discarding each card type in its own slot, game teardown time will be reduced.

Built for Premium Sleeves and Upgraded Resources
If you went all-in on the Collector’s Edition, it’s likely you want to protect the cards with premium sleeves. This 3D insert has you covered! I used Mayday Premium US Chimera and Mini Euro. The designer used Gamegenic Prime sleeves.
If you splurged on upgraded resources, the trays will fit it all. I’ll cover my Robinson Crusoe deluxe upgrades in an upcoming post.

What this Insert Doesn’t Cover
In the spirit of full transparency, before you invest hours of print time, there are a few things this insert does not accommodate:
- Miniatures – Many people may just use the default tokens, as they stack so well when assigning tasks, but I still love the minis. For now, I just keep them in the default vacuum plastic inserts that came with the Collector’s Edition; this way, they’re all carefully stored. No expansion box is large enough to house the official deluxe miniature trays. I may eventually find room for my more commonly used minis in this insert.
- Official Playmat: This large, beautiful neoprene playmat will have to be stored elsewhere; it’s just too long to fit in the box. This 3D insert assumes you’re using the official playmat and does not include storage for the cardboard game board either.
- Mystery Tales and Voyage of the Beagle expansions – These expansions did not come with the Collector’s Edition, but many of us picked up these expansions before the Gamefound version was released. I keep these two expansions together (and more) in the Mystery Tales box, and will cover that storage solution in a future post.
- Volcano Dice Tower – I have other dice towers or trays I prefer to use, and keep the cardboard Volcano Dice Tower folded up and stored away in the Mystery Tales expansion box described above.

How it Changed My Robinson Crusoe Experience
The setup for Robinson Crusoe Collector’s Edition used to be genuinely daunting. But thanks to this insert, setup feels almost ceremonial rather than chaotic. The table is clean and organized during a playthrough. All resources and tokens are in their place. And when the game is done, putting it all away takes just minutes.
Final Verdict for the Robinson Crusoe 3D Printed Insert by js500
Robinson Crusoe: Collector’s Edition holds a special place in my heart. With all its components, finding an insert that did it justice was really important to me. js500’s design has been everything I hoped for and more.

Setup is so much faster now, everything has a home, and the table stays clean and organized from the first round through the end of the session. The whole experience just feels calmer and more organized, which lets you focus on what really matters: surviving the island.
At the end of the day, the best insert is the one that gets your favorite game to the table more often. For me, this Robinson Crusoe 3D Printed Insert does that every single time, and that is worth everything.

Now, I’m off to flip open the Book of Adventures and embark on an adventure of survival, made so much easier with this well-designed Robinson Crusoe 3D Printed Insert!
